The 4th edition of European Development Days (EDDs) was held in Stockholm from Thursday 22nd to Saturday 24th October. The event attracted more than 4, 000 people and 1, 500 organizations including two-hundred speakers from 125 countries engaged in three days of meetings, exchange of views and lively debates.
Participants touched upon the global response to the economic downturn and climate change, as well as the challenges of democracy and development. The list of high-level speakers at the EDDs included leaders such as Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, Fredrik Reinfeldt, Prime Minister of Sweden, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, President of Liberia, Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the IPCC, George Soros, Chairman of Open Society Institute and Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament.
The ICPE took active role in the event and held more than 30 bilateral talks with various actors ranging from representatives of government development agencies, ministries and international NGOs to high-level guests including Rwanda's Minister of Natural Resources Mr Stanislas Kamanzi and UNEP Deputy Executive Director Ms Angela Cropper.
The ICPE is proud to announce that its CC-TAP initiative, an environmental platform the ICPE is currently developing in conjunction with its international partners, sparked substantial interest among various interlocutors. What is more, the nascent 'Green' Master's program focusing on capacity building and climate change adaptation with the aim of educating project managers at the local level gained universal support, especially among representatives from developing countries.
It is the hope and determination of the ICPE that contacts gained at the EDDs will translate into lasting partnerships in the near future.
