Between 8 and 11 July 2012, ICPE Acting Director General, Mr. Janez Podobnik, visited New Delhi under the auspices of ICPE Council President, Shri O. P. Rawat (Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India). The aim of the visit was to present the new management of ICPE and to discuss the new ICPE development strategy and proposed plan of action. Mr. Podobnik visited several departments and institutions of the Government of India, with which ICPE had cooperated closely in the educational and training programmes. Throughout their stay and meetings in New Delhi, ICPE representatives were strongly supported by the Department of Public Enterprises, as well as HE Mr. Janez Premože (Ambassador of Slovenia in New Delhi).
At the Department of Public Enterprises, Mr. Podobnik discussed the future development of cooperation between ICPE and the Government of India with Secretary O. P. Rawat,ICPE Council President, Joint Secretary Ashok Pavadia and the team of department high officials. Grounds for future common action were set in this fruitful and open meeting, including the preparations for the 52nd Regular Session of the ICPE Council to be held at ICPE headquarters in September 2012.
Further, Mr. Podobnik met with Shri Madhusudan Ganapathi, Secretary for West at the Ministry of External Affairs, where the importance of ICPE as an intergovernmental institution, a two-way path for exchange of knowledge, as well as a platform for South-South cooperation was stressed.
ICPE’s core mission in and orientation towards the public sector and public sector enterprises was presented in an important meeting with Minister Shri Praful Patel, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, sharing the experiences and prospective of the PSEs in India and Slovenia, as ICPE’s host country.
In New Delhi, Mr. Podobnik visited the International Management Institute, the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management, the Fortune Institute of International Business, and the Indian Institute of Public Administration, where they explored in detail the possibilities of cooperation in the long-term educational and short-term training programmes at ICPE.
Furthermore, with support of the Department of Public Enterprises, ICPE established contact with two state-owned enterprises: a visit was paid to the Power Grid Corporation Ltd., the largest power transmission company in India, while a welcome dinner was organised in the honour of ICPE by GAIL India Ltd., the largest gas transmission company in India.
