On February 25th, 2010, ICPE hosted a Round Table Discussion on the role of transparency, accountability and business ethics in professional as well as personal relations. The panelists participating in the discussion moderated by Mr Mitja Meršol were Dr Bojan Dobovšek, Member of Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, Mr David S. Vaillancourt, Senior Consultant at A. T. Kearney, Mr Janez Živko, MBA, Member of Management Board at Petrol d.d., and Dr Franci Demšar, Director of Slovenian Research Agency.
Several issues were raised, including the place of media in respect of transparency. In addition, the role of modern communication tools such as internet was pointed out in order to enhance transparency. Although the panelists somehow differed on the influence of greed factor in business, some advocating its major impact, whereas some claiming the opposite, they agreed on the need to strengthen the rule of law for ensuring transparent functioning.
Instructive introduction encouraged a dynamic and thought-provoking debate with active participation of the audience which raised many front burner issues, among others the effect of religion and cultural differences on business ethics.
The two papers were written by Dr Bojan Dobovšek and used as a starting point for further discussion.
