On 11 April 2011 ICPE organized the third study tour for Green Industry MBA students.
Our first stop was Hidria Institute Klima in Godovič, which carries out the development of “state-of-the-art” indoor climate systems in a most innovative way. Director of the institute Dr. Erik Pavlovič led us through their building, where we had a chance to see their intriguing products, we were especially astonished by their smart approaches, stimulation of their ways of heating and ventilating the space etc. The so called “clean room” was also very interesting to see.

Then we stopped in Ilirska Bistrica at Bio futura, a company which deals with the collection and treatment of organic waste, recognised that biogas, an efficient energy source, could also be the basis for a business opportunity. Thir biogas plant in Ilirska Bistrica, produces electricity from organic waste. Mr. Matej Kordelič told us how a lot will have to be done in terms of mentality change when it gets to treating the wastes, since we all have to be aware it is for own good to act responsible.
The last stop was Port of Koper (Luka Koper), which provides port and logistics services in the Port of Koper and thus contributes substantially to the development of the region. Luka Koper’s basic activity covers cargo handling and warehousing services for all types of goods, complemented by a range of additional services for cargo with the aim of providing a comprehensive logistics support to customers. By visiting Luka Koper the participants became acquainted with the work and organization of a successful European port, which represents a commercial and transportation window into the Adriatic, Mediterranean and beyond. Luka Koper is also a Green Port, their pertinent legislation is continuously taken into account when effecting planning and development, while infrastructure investments are implemented in a manner which preserves the countenance of the ancient city of Koper as well as the local landscape and shoreline.
Mr. Mitja Dujc who gave us a short power point presentation and took us around the port in our van, was most friendly. We were all positively surprised by the size of the port and everything it offers.
The study tour was concluded with the very pleasant walk through the beautiful city of Koper, which was, to our satisfaction, very photogenic on such a sunny day. The day was nice and students got familiar with important businesses and the beauty of Slovenian Primorska region.
