“Copenhagen Accord – one step forward, two steps back?”

ICPE is proud to present a continuum of series of Round Table Discussions with a round table titled “Copenhagen Accord – one step forward, two steps back?” moderated by Mr Mitja Meršol.

Discussion with prominent experts from environmental fields and distinguished speakers from countries deeply involved in the process will take place on Thursday, 28 January 2010 at 6.00 p.m., at the ICPE Building, Dunajska 104, Ljubljana.

Although the Copenhagen Accord is a step forward in tackling climate change issues, there are further steps to be taken. Who is going to finance the mitigation and adaptation policies in order to levy the negative effects of climate change? Is the right to development really in total controversy to environmental protection? Should sustainable development be a priority to developing countries’ governments? What more could be done in Copenhagen?

The upcoming debate with Dr Lučka Kajfež Bogataj, a known Slovenian climatologist will provide answers to these and other questions.

Dr. Lučka Kajfež Bogataj is a Professor at Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia and started her career in science in 1980 with degrees in mathematics, physics, and biotechnology. In 1996, she became head of the Center for BioMeteorology, and in 1997 she received full professorship at the Biotechnical Faculty and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana. Between 2002 and 2008, Dr. Kajfež Bogataj served as a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which received the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates for 2007.
