ICPE - Africa

As a conclusion of the successful international “2nd Africa Day: Europe for Africa and Africa for World” the organizers prepared a Press conference on Monday, May 27, 2013 at ICPE where they presented the conclusions as well as the final report.

The positive feedback has certainly aroused a wish to continue the Africa Day’s annual meeting in Ljubljana and organizers confirmed the focus on the implementation of this project in 2014 in increased number of the participating countries. One of the goals is that Slovenia and its capital city, together with the active involvement of the EU institutions, takes the integrative role on the path towards a more comprehensive, political and economical profound relations between EU countries and Africa.

2nd Africa Day in Slovenia

On Tuesday, 7 May 2013, ICPE hosted the 2nd Africa Day: Europe for Africa and Africa for World (14th Forum on Europe), which was co-organized by CeGD, Club of Former Ambassadors, African Forum, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia as well as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Republic of Slovenia, where the second day of the event will be hosted.

THe event was held under the honorable patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr Borut Pahor, who unfortunately could not deliver his opening address, due some unforeseen obligations.

After the welcome addresses by the hosts, ADG Mr Janez Podobnik, Director Mr Blaž Golob, Director Mr Ibrahim Nouhoum and Ambassador Peter Toš, the keynote addresses were delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Slovenia, HE Mr Karl Erjavec, HE Mr Ajay Kumar Bramdeo, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the AU to the EU and Mr Jeremy Lester, Special Adviser of EU Managing Director for Africa, European External Action Service.

Before the beginning of the 1.session, titled "50 years of African integration and Africa-EU relations" Ms Bojana Rogelj Škafar, Director of the Slovene Ethnographic Museum introduced  the »Slovenian researchers in Africa’’ exhibition, which was, together with the School Museum exhibition, presented at the ICPE building.

The first session was chaired by H.E. Mrs Heba Sidhom, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Slovenia, with eminent panelists, such as , HE Mr Ajay Kumar Bramdeo, Mr Jeremy Lester, H.E. Mr Xolisa Mfundiso Mabhongo, Ambassador, Republic of South Africa, H.E. Ms Maria de Jesus Veiga Miranda Mascarenhas, Ambassador, Republic of Cape Verde and Mr Marjan Cencen, PhD, Director-General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.

After the reception two panels followed, namely:  "Africa’s contribution for World", which was chaired by Mr Blaž Golob along with the following presentations by : s Elisabeth Rasekoala, PhD, Director of African Caribbean Network for Science and Technology, with the presentation on    Africa’s Contribution to Global Development: Knowledge Transfer, Innovation, Globalisation and Sustainable Development, Ms Marija Barishin, PhD, Forum on Europe on Social Entrepreneurship in Africa – New Innovative Business Models, Mr Miroslav Polzer, President IAAI & Mr Jean Paul Brice Affana, President African Youth Network (via Skype) on Youth and Innovation for Repositioning of Africa in the World and Mr Tihomir Divjak, Euro World Network with the presentation on  Connecting Africa – Communication Tools for Sustainable Development;

And the last panel of day "Just World & Prosperity for Africa was chaired by Mr Janez Podobnik, who also presented the cooperation between ICPE and Africa, along with the following panelists:
