DG Dr Šalej calls for generic technology in renewable energy at the UNIDO Global Energy Forum

countries is crucial, DG Šalej tells participants at the Global Renewable Energy Forum in Mexico

At the invitation of the Director-General of UNIDO Mr Kandeh K. Yumkella, and the Secretary of Energy of Mexico Ms. Georgina Kessel, ICPE DG Dr Štefan Bogdan Šalej was among the panelists at the Global Renewable Energy Forum entitled "Scaling up Renewable Energy", held in Guanajuato, México from 7-9 October 2009. Dr Šalej spoke at the panel on "Innovative Policy and Institutional Framework".

In his speech, Dr Šalej called for a bigger corporate social responsibility in the global fight against climate change and highlighted the role of public opinion that "puts
pressure
on
companies
to
be
environmentally responsible". Regarding the use of renewables, he strongly advocated advancements in generic applied science and technology in order to make renewable energy more affordable.
